Identification

The most common infesting cockroach species in Illinois are American, German, and Oriental cockroaches. These fast moving insects thrive by using their flat bodies to conceal themselves in tight, dark spaces. These prolific breeders seek out food, moisture, heat, and dark places conducive to hiding and breeding, and access structures by moving along cracks and crevices, pipes chases, and conduits.
Different species of cockroach differ in their behavior, habits, and biology. It is important to work with a Landmark professional who can assess the infestation by properly identifying the infesting species.
Types of Cockroaches

American Cockroach
The American cockroach, the largest of the common roaches, measures 1.5 inches in length and is reddish-brown in color. The adult American cockroach is easily distinguished by its large size, large folded wings, and pale-colored border at the top of its head. Nymphs are gray-brown in color. American cockroaches can live for more than a year and in that time a single cockroach can produce over 1,400 young.

German Cockroach
The German cockroach is the species most often found infesting buildings in Illinois. This small, 0.5 inch, tan-colored roach is a prolific breeder and can appear in large numbers. Nymphs may appear darker than adults. The adult German cockroach is easily distinguished by two dark stripes on its head. They generally live less than one year, though a single adult female can produce over 350 young in her lifetime.

Oriental Cockroach
Measuring about 1 inch long, the Oriental cockroach can be distinguished by its shiny dark brown-black coloring. Sometimes referred to as a “waterbug,” this species of roach prefers a damp environment, often enters structures through sewer lines, and congregates in damp basements. The Oriental cockroach and can produce well over 100 young in its lifetime.

How do we solve it?

We use VIPER it’s used as a flusher for roaches. It’s forces them out of hiding. TEMPO and DELTA are also very effective with roaches. Used in cracks and crevices where they like to hide. GENTROL is added in the tank with the chemical solution to add a faster and also and more importantly this is birth control for roaches Stops them from reproducing. ADVION it’s used in cabinets and places where roaches are found. MAX FORCE is also like ADVION works the same way different brand. It’s best practice to switch the bates on the more busy accounts because some roaches grow Emune to some bates.
This are the pro-chemical used to control roaches and bed bugs. With all these chemicals available the MOST important thing is knowing how to apply them, when and frequency of application. Also knowing how much to apply and when to is the most important thing. As an exterminator I’m trained on the proper techniques of application.
